Or, we skip meals and then overfeed when it's time to eat. When you're prepared that simply won't happen. And once you train your body to expect food at specific times you won't be skipping any meals. I'm also aware that you've probably read about and seen so many products out there that promise a quick fix to weight loss and getting the body of your dreams. Most often, they have a fit woman modeling the equipment or posing for the product to entice you and make you believe that if you buy this magic potion or contraption, you too will look like her.
You may not hear this too often from someone who's in the business of teaching people how to lose weight, but here's the hard truth Perhaps you know that already because you've tried everything else and that's why you're here. Or, perhaps that's sad and scary news to you because you were hoping for a quick fix. But that diet pill, shake, ab exercise, liposuction operation, tummy tuck, gastric bypass, slimming wrap, magic tea, fad diet, crash diet and fat burner that is being touted as the next best thing out there for fat loss will not be a long-term solution.
I'd like you to consider this letter as me symbolically shouting to the world that "We do not need a risky, life threatening operation to fix our weight problems! No chemicals. No potions. No surgeries. Well I won't bore you with a brag session, but suffice it to say that I've been to the dark side and I know what it feels like to be fed up and frustrated about the shape your body is in.
I remember many times when my sons were very young, as soon as my husband would return home from work and walk through the door, I would be dressed and ready to walk out the door, just itching to get in the car by myself and go to the grocery store. For me, it was more than just a trip to the grocery store.
Getting in the car and driving by myself meant I could listen to adult music, turn the volume up, roll the windows down and even take the long way if I wanted. The grocery store, of all places, now became my saving grace. I loved going without the kids hanging on me, it gave me a reason to get out of my pajamas and be presentable, and for short bursts, I was surrounded by a majority of adults.
Getting in the car by myself for just those short periods of time at the end of the afternoon made me feel free, and freedom, I have learned, can be a very positive thing for a mom! Sadly, the grocery store only alleviated the effects of being suppressed inside my house for a short period of time. What it did not do was fix my weight gain issue nor did it remedy the fact that I had absolutely no shape to my body. In clothes, I thought I looked okay. Without clothes on, well, that was a different story. I was flabby and I hated it. If you have ever heard of the term "skinny-fat", I fit this definition to a tee.
I was trying to limit my food so I wouldn't gain weight but I was hungry all the time, eating whatever I could scrounge up around the kitchen. To top it off, even as I was cutting back on my food, I was gaining inches and I had not an ounce of muscle tone. I was not considered overweight but my body fat percentage was high and I just could not understand what I was doing wrong. Why wasn't I toned? What should I eat, how often should I eat, what about cardio, should I be lifting weights?
These were all questions I didn't know the answer to and in the end, discovering the answers to these questions and making changes in my life are what transformed my body into what it is today.
Maybe you can relate to many of the experiences I went through before my body transformation. I have spoken to so many women about these issues that I cannot even keep track anymore. I have realized that my story is a very common scenario and one most of us want alleviated. I cannot remember the exact moment I decided enough was enough, but I eventually reached a point where I was fed up with the way I looked.
I committed to change and put forth all the effort I could into exploring how to improve my body. I did Leslie's program as a way to lose the last 5 pounds of baby weight. I'm not a fan of fad diets, frozen meal plans or "miracle shakes". By eating 5 small, healthy meals a day there was so much variety in the food. The recipes were delicious and easy to prepare. The grocery lists made it so easy to do one trip to the store for days of food. During the diet I felt great, my skin glowed, my energy level was high and I slept well.
